Jawaharlal Nehru was the first and also long serving prime minister of India[From 1947 to 1964].He is also referred as Pandit Nehru ("pandit" means "scholar","teacher" in Sanskrit).

Nehru is the son of a Motilal Nehru who was a barrister and politician.Nehru at an young age became the leader of the left wing of the Indian National Congress Party.After the independence,Nehru was recognized as Gandhi's political heir.

Nehru got the first chance to raise the flag of Independent India on 15 August 1947.Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 which was now celebrated as Children's Day.His daughter Indira Gandhi and Grandson Rajiv Gandhi also served as Prime Ministers of India.Nehru died in the early hours of 27 May 1964 of Heart Attack.His birthday,14 November,is celebrated as Children's Day in recognition of his lifelong passion and work for the welfare,education and development of children and young people. Children across India remember him as Chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru).
